TZO-HA – The Intelligent Load Balancer

TZO-HA with DNS Load Balancing can monitor as many as twenty five (25) Servers or IPs and balance the load among them. TZO’s patented ‘Intelligent Round Robin’ offers a flexible means to manage the behavior of cooperating servers. TZO-HA offers many advantages; scalability, reliability, yet minimizes risk with a low cost to entry. TZO-HA with DNS Load Balancing can either eliminate the need for hardware based load balancers or can work in conjunction with hardware implementations.

Far more than simple Round Robin

When a server fails TZO-HA sends notifications and removes it from the rotation while continuing to monitor all the servers. When the server is back online TZO-HA automatically returns it to the rotation and restores your originally specified weight to each server.

Degraded Server Action

TZO-HA has the ability to detect a server in a degraded state. Our monitoring function can also calculate round trip time and time of execution for the monitor agent. A base line is established, whereby if a monitoring process for a given server exceeds a preconfigured number a server can be defined as in a degraded state. TZO-HA can notify on this event as well as apply a preconfigured percentage number to reduce the amount of traffic being sent to the degraded server while still allowing it to participate in the Load Balancing scheme.

Multi-Point Monitoring

TZO-HA provides for multiple monitoring agents deployed in different geographical locations. This eliminates false positive notifications. With a minimum of 2 monitoring points for any one IP or device, monitoring is quite flexible and can be done in a variety of methods. Standard port and protocol communication from simple ICMP ping, SMTP, POP3, Telnet, FTP, HTTP, HTTPS, text matching and SIP as well as script execution with expected return strings can be configured.

Specify a Different Weight for Each Server

You can specify that each server handle a certain percentage of server requests, routing more requests to your more robust servers or equally balancing the traffic across them all.

Compliments Existing Load Balancers

If you’re using a load balancing device at one or more of your installations, TZO-HA can balance the load among your locations while your load balancing device can balance the load within each location. Using TZO-HA to augment your hardware load balancing devices protects against failure of the load balancing device and protects against the loss of connection to one or more of your data centers.
